Kano state Govt Shuts down College Over Alleged Sodomy Cases

The college was closed down over recent media report of alleged child abuse in the school.

The Governor of Kano state has ordered the immediate closure of boys section of Hassan Ibrahim Gwarzo College, Kano, over recent media report of alleged child abuse in the school.

The Deputy Governor of the state, Hafiz Abubakar, announced the closure of the college while inaugurating a 14-man committee to investigate the matter on Friday.

Mr. Abubakar, a professor, who expressed government’s concern over the ‘’unfortunate’’ report, said that the committee was headed by former Vice Chancellor, University of Maiduguri, Prof. Abubakar Mustapha. He mandated the committee to carry out a thoroughly investigation of the alleged sodomy in the school, especially the perpetrators of the act. He directed the committee to identify all victims of the alleged abuses as well as establish the extent of abuse and levels of culpability.
